Enterprise Portals in Israel

Enterprise Portals are divided into 2 different types:
Gateway portals:
An “Intranet-type” portal that is used by the entire organization and includes general organizational information

Operational portals:
Point-specific portals that are used to a specific group of users for a specific process, for example: a portal for procurement processes, a portal for sales people, an HR portal etc.

The following radar shows which areas are being used by most Israeli enterprises today (for example, gateway portals are used by most), which are in implementation phases, and which are “of interest” – or in other words, are being examined (Wikis and Blogs):

Enterprise portal trends:

  • Portal has become an “adjective” describing a work environment of a specific process, rather than a “noun”. In other words, building a portal is no longer the purpose, using a portal to improve collaboration processes or improve information access is the purpose.
  • Most large/heterogeneous organizations have more than 1 portal: Usually 1 gateway portal and several operational portals for specific needs. Some of them are using several portals technologies, according to the specific needs.
  • Portals have become the new “work environment” for KM needs, for a specific process need, or for a project need
